Book of Kells now online

17 March 2013

In honor of St. Patrick’s day, Trinity College Dublin has made the full text of the Book of Kells available online. They have also created an iPad app to access the same digital archive. Now all 677 pages of this beautifully illuminated manuscript may be accessed for free from anywhere in the world without doing any damage to the actual book itself.

The book is written in Latin and is more than 1,000 years old. It contains the four canonical gospels, richly illustrated in four volumes. It is now housed at Trinity College Library in Dublin, Ireland. An excursion to see the Book of Kells in person is on my itinerary for the trip I am taking this summer. I can’t wait!

Happy St. Patrick’s day!
